Fundamentals of Vinyasa yoga

  • Lost In Yoga, Camberwell Arch 265 Urlwin Street London, England, SE5 0NG United Kingdom (map)

Vinyasa yoga has its roots in Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga, characterised by a dynamic, flowing and energetic way of practicing, linking breath with movement. At first glance, dynamic yoga can be intimidating, but with an understanding behind its mechanics and structure, the results can be rewarding for both body and mind.

In this workshop, you’ll explore dynamic breathing techniques, the different variations of Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutations) and the fundamental postures that make up a flow-based sequence, including key alignment principles and modifications. As we progress, we’ll also touch on the mechanics behind more challenging transitions like Chaturanga (also known as a ‘Vinyasa’ in modern practice), jump backs / jump forwards plus introductory arm balances like Bakasana (crow) and inversions.

Whether you’re curious about trying Vinyasa yoga or have an existing practice wishing to refine your understanding, you’ll leave with the knowledge and confidence to safely practice this fun and uplifting style of yoga.

Some partner work will be involved. Open to all levels of experience except complete beginners.
