Creating Freedom + Strength in Backbends

Creating Freedom + Strength in Backbends

Online via Zoom

Our spine is an incredible combination of power and flexibility, with the ability to move in many directions and supports us in daily living. Yet, activities of modern life, like hours of sitting in chairs or hunched over devices, create poor posture and a lack of movement in our spine, creating unnecessary tension in the body.

When we accumulate tightness and weakness in particular areas of the body, it’s important to create diversity and cultivate the opposite of this. A sustainable and balanced backbend practice can be hugely beneficial for our overall well being.

This workshops aims to deconstruct and rebuild the way you approach your backbend practice, offering some useful tips on how to achieve balance between strength and flexibility, creating freedom in your spine and body.

During this workshop, you will:

  • Explore the biomechanics of spinal extension poses and learn how to approach them in a way that strengthens the backside whilst giving freedom to explore potential

  • Practice a thoughtful yet functional Vinyasa-based sequence that addresses key areas, especially the shoulders, spine and pelvis

  • Be encouraged to develop flexibility in the areas that are tight, and strength in the areas that are weak

  • Explore the contrast between active and passive ranges of movement across many planes of motion associated with our spine

  • Leave with an understanding of how a balanced backbend practice can bring a sense of freedom in other areas of your practice and life

This workshop is for anyone with a regular practice, with options given to suit all levels. Following the workshop, you will also receive a full recording, available on-demand.
